LOTHIAN MAY OPEN UP ‘WAR BUNKERS’ Lothian’s nuclear war “bunkers” may be put on view. Press and television crews are likely to be invited to see the bases from which the area would be run in case of missile attack. The bunkers are, in fact, country houses in Mid and East Lothian which have been set up as wartime headquarters. Regional councillors are expected to visit the bases at Vogrie House, near Gorebridge, and Alderton House, near Haddington, in the near future, and to invite reporters. The region’s general purposes committee will shortly be asked to consider a report from the authority’s Emergency Planning Officer covering the last year.
