Saint-Martin Metro Station is on lines 8 and 9, between République and Strasbourg-Saint-Denis. It is no longer in use, having closed in September 1939 on the outbreak of World War II. It briefly re-opened at the end of the war but only briefly and is now a ‘ghost station’.
One piont of interest is the selection of experimental (porcelain) tiled advertisements which remain although sadly heavily grafittied. For a while its underground space was used as a shelter for the homeless and it is occasionally used for film and publicity shoots.
Sub Brit was lucky to have two visits to the station, in 2004 and 2008.
