On a low mound in a rectangular compound on the East side of High Street at its junction with A158
LOCKED All surface features remain intact with the light green paint flaking badly. A metal dome on the ventilation shaft indicates this was a master (radio) post. The access shaft is on a raised concrete plinth. The hatch is locked but can be opened with a ‘T’ bar key. Internally much remains including cupboard, folding table and shelf, folding chair, two other chairs, papers, two post diaries (now removed), ROC magazines, battery switching box, copper strap around the walls, wiring, posters, tool board, two pair of wellington boots, four internal lights including one outside the toilet door, 3 mattresses, fork, scythe, fire blanket in box and a home made maroon simulator. The post was sold by Crown Castle Communications in 2003. When visited in 2004, some external repairs had been carried out, the fence had been repaired and the grass had been cut.
Opened in 1961 and closed in 1991.
