200 yards NE along footpath (opposite Colliers Return Pub) from the B6194 Rochdale Road. The post is at a junction of two paths amongst straw bales.
SEALED The access shaft and adjacent ventilation shaft have been totally encased in a concrete block 5' X 4' X 4'. Only the sump drain pipe is visible protruding from underneath the block. The ventilation shaft, still painted green, has had its top removed. The louvres have also been removed and the holes filled with brick. The FSM pipe is intact.
Opened in 1960 and closed in 1968.

The Colliers Return pub is now private apartments, the public footpath on the opposite side of the road is still there with steel wicket gate type access to the path across the fields.
The ROC post is mostly buried under farmers trash and old fencing wire etc nowadays, the concrete block covered access shaft and the green air vent are still visible if you know what to look for. Very wet area during the winter months so I would suspect the site to be fully flooded internally, the whole ROC site looks to have suffered from ground heave.
I entered this post in the early 70`s with school mates when it was still accessible, being around 8 years old !! I remember the rusting bed frames, chemical toilet and some cupboards still being in place, although there had been some burning of rubbish inside.
The farmer subsequently welded the lid shut to keep us kids out. I think some local youths managed to still gain access so the farmer then encased the whole thing in concrete.
