When Civil Defence was re-established after World War II, Nottingham built its control centre beneath a training centre off Edwards Lane. As was common at the time, ruined buildings were also erected to offer training in extracting casualties.
The control centre included a main control room, with smaller command rooms for the police and fire service. Supporting rooms included a dormitory, plant room and signals room. In 1968 Civil Defence was ended and the site was moth-balled. Eventually in 1991 the site was sold and a house was eventually built above the former bunker.
