In a rectangular compound on the West side of a public footpath, 120 yards South of New Tyning Lane, just South of its junction with Horton Hill.
LOCKED All surface features remain intact. All the metal items (pipes louvres etc.) are painted very dark green while the concrete is unpainted. A metal dome on the ventilation shaft indicates this was a master post. Instead of the usual wide step up to the shaft there are two small double steps on two sides. The top of the access hatch was rebuilt around 1989 and a new Torlift hatch fitted. The hatch is locked but there is no security plug in place so it can be opened with a large screwdriver or a ‘Torlift’ key. Internally much remains including the table, shelf, cupboard, rack of dexion shelves, siren box, fire blanket in large fire blanket box, three mattresses, tool rack, dose rate chart on wall, battery switching box, coax cable for radio, copper earth straps along 2 walls, 2 lights, notices, plane photographs, grille for top of shaft, dustpan/brush, pick axe (no handle), BPI mount, spare plate and bolts for the top of the FSM pipe.
Opened in 1960 and closed in 1991.
