Kongelunds Fort (also known as Kungelunds Battery) was constructed during World War I and protected the waters of Köge Bay where a minefield was also laid. The armament consisted of four 29cm howitzers, four 75mm cannons and two 47mm quick-firing cannons.
The fort was rebuilt and rearmed in 1938 with weapons originally from the Herluf Trolle - a Danish Coastal Defence Vessel. Later in the war the German occupiers added further guns. In 1959 the site was repurposed as a radar site for NIKE SAM missiles, whose empty plints still survive, alongside older magazines and casemates.
The fort became disused in 1982 and is now looked after by the local community.
