In 1982 conversion from part of stokes bay battery 2 into a nuclear bunker started and this later became Gosport Council Nuclear Bunker at a cost of £30,000. A new passage was cut to connect more rooms during the conversion & air tight hatches were added and an air filtration system was fitted.
This replaced the previous site dating from WW2 and adapted in 1954.
Eventually the space was assigned to be reused and the last bits of LUWA air handling equipment kit was unfortunately removed.
