Ejby Bunker is located within the ditch of the former Vestvolden (Western Wall) fortifications around Copenhagen. This vast defence ring was built between 1888 and 1892.
From 1954 onwards, the bunker was the Control Centre for Copehagen’s Air Defences, receiving feeds from remote radar heads and directing aeroplanes and missiles in response to any threats. It continued in the role until 1971, after which it remained in military hands as a communications centre. The military vacated the bunker in 2005.
Today the site operates as a museum, telling the bunker’s story alongside interactive exhibits on wider Cold War history. It is open at weekends and throughout school holidays.
