During World II, a two-level secure store was built within the former quarry in Adel Woods. It had reinforced concrete entrances which are now sealed. Within, records from Leeds City Council and the Leeds Permanent Building Society were stored throughout the war. A dumb waiter connected the two levels adjacent to one entrance. Problems with condensation were reported when the site was in use.
The entrances can be seen from a permissive footpath within the woods.
