Notes: Warbreck Station was situated on the Cheshire Lines
Committee's North Liverpool Extension Line which connected its
main Liverpool to Manchester line to the Aintree Central and
beyond as far as Southport.
Warbreck Station opened on the 1.8.1929 to serve the north Walton
district of Liverpool which was very built up by this time.
It was an unmanned halt from the start and it appears that it
was often only open to regular passenger services in the summer
months. Prior to 7.1.1952 this was probably to cater for day
trippers to Southport. Passenger services to the north of Aintree
Central ceased on that date and it is a wonder that it survived
as very close by was Orrell Park Station which offered a much
more direct route to the centre of Liverpool and to points north.
However the station continued to be serviced by trains to Aintree
Central in the north as well destinations to Liverpool and to
Manchester towards the south.
The CLC North Liverpool Extension line was always very busy
on Grand National days as express trains from all over the country
used it to access Aintree Central.
The local service from Aintree Central to Manchester with some
peak services to Liverpool continued until 7th November 1960.
The line was cut back to Walton on the Hill in 1968 and the
track was lifted.
Today the route is part of the National Cycleway Network Route
62 which is The Trans Pennine Trail.
