| Notes: The line on which Liscard & Poulton station stood
was the last addition to the Wirral Railway Companies network
of lines that stretched from Birkenhead to West Kirby and to New
Brighton. The branch left the New Brighton branch at Seacombe
Junction from where heavy engineering was required to drive the
line through a sandstone ridge and through to. |

the banks of the
Mersey at Seacombe Ferry Terminal.
 |
The station consisted of a single island platform in a sandstone
cutting, its booking office being at street level. Waiting facilities
were provided at platform level. As well as Wirral Railway services
to West Kirby and New Brighton the GCR operated a service to Wrexham
and Chester Northgate. Receipts from the Seacombe branch were
never that good for the |
Wirral Railway and when it became part of the LMS in 1923 the new company eventually gave up on passenger
services concentrating on goods, which was always busy on the
branch. Indeed the writing was on the wall when the former Wirral
Railway routes were electrified in 1938 and the Seacombe Branch
was left out.
| The GCR became part of the LNER and the services operating to
Wrexham and Chester did continue to operate. Indeed the route
was very popular with Liverpudlians who enjoyed walking and camping
in North Wales. However on 1.6.1960 this service was diverted
to New Brighton only a few miles away from Liscard & Poulton.

services and lingered on for a
few years as a goods line. Even these services ended in 1963 and
some time later most of the route, including the site of Liscard
& Poulton station was used to form the Kingsway Road Tunnel
that opened in 1971. Tickets from Michael Stewart
