Notes: In the 1890's the building of the Manchester Ship Canal necessitated the diversion and raising up of a number of railway lines including the Glazebrook to Stockport Tiviot Dale line. The line had to be built up to a height that would allow sea going vessels to pass underneath and so a deviation was constructed to the south of the original line which included a large single span girder bridge and a new station for Cadishead. For a few weeks in 1893 both lines were in use but eventually the original course of the line was split into two by the excavation of the Manchester Ship Canal. The original line on which a short lived station by the name of Cadishead had stood between 1873 and 1879 remained in use as access to sidings adjacent to the Ship Canal.

Situated on an embankment the station had two platforms that linked to the road by slopes and steps. At platform level there where fairly simple waiting facilities. The station was served by trains running between Stockport Tiviot Dale and Liverpool Central with some workings operating only as far as Warrington Central. Many express services passed through the station along with a steady stream of goods services.

The line remained as part of the CLC right up until nationalisation in 1948. The line remained busy right up until the 1960s when stopping passenger services where withdrawn from 30.11.1964. Some through workings and diversions continued to operate after this date but with the withdrawal of long distance services from Liverpool Central in 1966 these came to an end. The line remained in use for goods services right the way into the 1980s. In 1984 the bridge over the Ship Canal was closed and the line through Cadishead station was lifted. Interestingly the course of the original line through the town of Cadishead outlived the deviation and remained in use serving sidings. This line remained in use until the mid 1990's after which it was lifted.
