The County Borough of Huddersfield Civil Defence Control Centre is a substantial three level brick building built in 1966. It is built into the side of a bank with a single storey fronting on to Manchester Road and the full three stories visible from Chapel Hill. The control was on the bottom level. Windows have now been added to the control and the building is currently used as offices by Kirklees District Council. A new control centre was built in the Civic Centre basement in the 1980’s. There is still a communications mast on Manchester Road.
