The Station was situated on the St. Helens Railway’s eastern extension from Widnes to Warrington which opened on 1.2.1853. At the same time an extension was opened from Widnes to Garston Dock.

The Railway company was presured to open a station at Cuerdley by locals and against its better judgement it opened the station in November 1855. It proved to be a financial disaster as it was not used by many passengers. The company closed it on 5.1.1858
