Post Name GREAT BEDWYN
OS Grid Reference SU28286528
County Wiltshire
Date opened August 1961
Date closed September 1991
Location In a rectangular compound on the North side of an un-named minor road just East of its junction with Bedwyn Dyke. Immediately East of water pumping station. The location is unusual being surrounded by higher ground.
Description LOCKED All surface features remain intact. The concrete at the top of the access shaft is beginning to break up and the paint is flaking badly. A metal dome and aerial bracket on the ventilation shaft indicates this was a master post. The hatch is locked. When visited there was a wooden sign leaning against the nearby hut which reads 'Ministry of Defence Royal Observer Corps Post 14/B3', this has now gone. The compound is maintained with four old Citroen cars and spares stored there.

September 2007
The undergrowth has gone, the remains of the torched hut taken away and the post has been repainted. There's even a cane marking the position of the BPI pipe and the gate has been replaced. The hatch is securely locked with new locks as is the gate.

There was a large wooden hut at the Western end of the compound. This is probably the original post hut, now altered and is shown on 1:2500 OS map of the 1980's. The hut was burnt down in 2006.
