In a compound on the east side of Langham Lane but not visible from it (by telegraph pole).
OPEN In very good condition with all surface features intact. The compound is somewhat overgrown but securely locked. It is on the edge of former WW2 Boxted Airfield with an MOD boundary marker nearby. A metal dome on the ventilation shaft indicates this was a master post. The hatch is open. Internally the following artefacts remain: table, shelf, cupboard, two chairs, wooden shelf rack, bet, BT junction boxes and wiring, battery switching box, papers and notices, cleaning materials, light, BPI mount, spade, copper earth straps, two mattresses, coax cable for radio, baffle plates for GZI and the post log.
22.07.16 Access was arranged with the site owner. Behind a tall chain link fence which has a locked gate. Internally the post is in very good condition. There is some furniture still inside and a few other bits and bobs that were left behind. Surprisingly the paint on the walls is not flaking off and it didn’t smell damp. Newspaper from 17 Nov 1985 on table. There was a little water in the sump but the pump seems to have seized although the handle is still there and not at all rotten.
Opened in 1961 and closed in 1991.
