Parc Saint Pierre is situated in central Calais, opposite the impressive Hotel de Ville (Town Hall). But in the centre of its green space lies a massive German bunker dating from 1941. It was built as a Naval Command Headquarters and for many years (since 1962) has operated as a museum of World War II, with a particular emphasis on local events.
Displays include posters, weapons, period rooms and scale models of many local wartime structures. Some of the original features of the bunker such as electrical and ventilation supplies can still be seen. The museum isopen regularly although it is currently closed during the winter months.
