On a mound on the south side of a field boundary in a rectangular compound close to the top of a hill behind churchyard. Close to a public footpath.
LOCKED All surface features remain intact with flaking of the green paint. The mound is higher at one side as it is built into the side of the hill. Although all the ventilation louvres are in place, two old wooden louvres lie nearby together with two Jerry cans. The hatch is locked. Internally the following items remain: table, shelf, cupboard, long upright paper rack, FSM gaskets, light, small splint, 2 cluster maps, some papers, 1st aid poster, shelf in toilet recess, BPI baffle plates and BPI mount. The post was sold in summer 2003 but the buyer pulled out and it is to be resold.
A WW2 stone built aircraft observation post stand just outside the compound at one corner (The compound may originally have been ‘L’ shaped to enclose it). The building is approximately 10' X 8' with a large rectangular open observation section with its timber surround still in place. There is a doorway at one end and a brick partition inside dividing the observation area from a small crew room. The open top stretched over the crew room as well. Local children use the building as a den.
Opened in 1965 and closed in 1991.
