view is taken from the north west salient of the main rampart overlooking
the north west mortar battery with firing steps in front. Beyond is
the north west demi-caponier and ditch with counterscarp. The small
(black) tunnel leads through to the roof and firing steps on the NW
caponier. The casemates for the mortars are not visible beneath the
rampart but the scaffolding poles in the bottom left of the picture
are covering the rear vent to the battery.
