Description: DEMOLISHED 29 Group ROC HQ was of the standard surface
design; it was opened on 13 May 1961 by Sir Ian Forbes Leith, Lord Lieutenant
of the County of Aberdeen. Mr John Mackay MP formally opened a two storey
training block alongside on 1 Sept 1986. As well as an outside door
an interior door allowed access into the bunker through the canteen
wall.
Outside of the blockhouse was a single level brick administration block
used by the permanent staff. On the roof was a microwave drum antenna,
which connected into the Emergency Communications Network. The Aberdeen
Group HQ has been demolished and the site is now occupied by Anderson
Construction on the Northfield Industrial Estate.
On 1 Sept 1971 29 Group formed a Nuclear Reporting Cell (NRC) at RAF Buchan
near Peterhead, staffed by ROC personnel. The cell operated in the station from
the R3 (ROTOR) Operations Block.
