Plans are now underway to demolish the 'RWR' at Coryton ... [Posted January 7.]

REGIONAL WAR ROOM (CORYTON) CARDIFF.

Plans are now underway to demolish the 'RWR' at Coryton on the former BT site. The plan proposes demolition of the former BT office block and the Regional War Room and replacement with 6 blocks of residential units. Over the past 5 years or so there has been a marked acceleration in the demolition of former Cold War sites. Sadly as towns and cities expand their boundaries these sites, often once well outside the boundaries of the area, now become prime development sites. It is of course not possible to save all these buildings and in the case of Coryton although the RWR was fairly intact, it did suffer from flooding and had not been well maintained. There was also a major crack in the building and this had caused problems over the years. So sadly this is another site to go to demolition and the first to go in 2004.
