RAF Uxbridge and Bentley Priory [Posted November 13.]

Posted by: Keith Ward.

RAF Uxbridge and Bentley priory are to CLOSE within a 5 year timescale. All functions are to be transferred to RAF Northolt. The Battle of Britain bunker museum will be safeguarded. Bentley priory has been in use since 1935 and new accommodation has only just been built for airmen transferred from RAF Stanmore. The fate of the bunker at the priory is not known but it is currently used as Strike Command Standby. The final destruction of the RAF heritage will soon be complete, a sad day indeed.

In the mid nineties I visited to the mentioned area together with my commander, who is a group captain. I can still recall the time as it evoked a very strong experience. I think that our present conditions are due to those who gave their lives for us, enabling us to maintain the way we live and work today. To me RAF Uxbridge is proof of that time, may the memory stand forever.
