The former AAOR at Mistley in Essex goes up for sale ... [Posted October 27.]

The former AAOR at Mistley in Essex goes up for sale this week with Edward Symmons & Partners (London) 020 7955 8454. As BAPT and Essex County Council have failed to reach agreement on a mutual way forward for the site, the Trust now feel it is surplus to their requirements and can be sold. The site has planning permisison for use as a museum or for archive storage/data management. The site is NOT available for development and would only be considered for one of the above uses. Bristol Civil Defence Bunker is demolished. [Posted October 16.]

Sadly when I visited the Banwell close bunker in BISHOPSWORTH Bristol last night (15/10/03) I was greated by a large area of brand spanking new concrete, much to my dismay.

When will they stop demolishing these items of our heritage?

Elstow storage depot: Closure [Posted October 9.]

Elstow storage depot in Bedford, Bedfordshire finally closed it's gates for the last time to the public and trades on the 2nd October 2003 in readiness for it to be redeveloped as "Elstow Garden Villages".

Elstow storage depot has a history back to the Second World War as an ammunitions factory site and whilst no detailed plans are available of the site's development during the war, it is *said* to have many levels below ground which were capped with concrete many decades ago where narrow guage railway lines just disappear into the ground.

During the 1980's the site was propsed to be developed into a nuclear waste storage facility which was dropped after much local opposition. Much preparation of this brownfield site is going to be needed to make the site ready for the building of houses and other community services.

Plans to demolish a Grade II listed nuclear bunker in Cambridgeshire, have been criticised by conservationists.

Countryside Properties have put forward a planning application to build houses on the site of the bunker in Brooklands Avenue, Cambridge.

The bunker was built to serve as the centre of government for the east of England if a nuclear war had broken out during the Cold War.
