The Day the Dump went up: the 1944 Fauld explosion. Lecturer: Mark Rowe.
What, how and why Raf Fauld blew up. The various human stories from the day, those underground, in the area and rescuers and bereaved. The lesser known aspects like Fauld's repair and use in the Cold War; the lack of punishment for any RAF officer, the curious reporting of the event in the media in recent decades and some reasons why.

APPEAL FOR INFORMATION - CAN YOU HELP? - UKWMO Communications / DTELs
[Posted August 11.]
This is an appeal to readers of these pages who have any knowledge of Communications equipments as installed and used in the late 1980s UKWMO Headquarters and ‘Hill Top’ radio sites in the UK. This period saw the enhancement of the then current ECN. Perhaps you worked with these systems in BT or DTELs.
The upgrades saw the introduction of ‘modern’ MSXs (Message Switch Exchanges) at ‘Zone HQ’s’ (protected government headquarters such as SRHQs / RGHQs) and UKWMO Group Headquarters, the upgrade of Radio Communications (Home Office) and the introduction of ‘modern’ automated Mitel SX2000S telephone switches. Other systems were installed at lower levels (County HQs etc) within the upgrades. The installations of this period are now obsolete.
The specific request is for individuals who have:
1. Knowledge or experience of the Home Office ‘Hill Top’ Radio (Multiplex) equipment installed in the late 1980s. This was used to link Zone HQs (at RGHQs) and UKWMO Group HQs via ‘Hill Top’ Radio sites etc. These equipments were very distinctive (and you will know why) 19” racks based around Plessey Multiplexers.
We have data (and perhaps the units themselves!) showing these units in use at RGHQs of the period but need to confirm that the same equipment (Racks) was installed at UKWMO sites. This information will be vital in the restoration of the English Heritage UKWMO Group HQ at York. Any info on this would be most helpful. Your efforts may ensure that the corrrect equipment is on display in the near future!
This appeal is not for restricted information. If you were involved in UKWMO comms, BT or DTELs and simply just saw the kit (you will remember it as it was VERY distinctive) and can confirm this then you can be of help too!

Many thanks
