EP College at Easingwold is undergoing a major build
[Posted January 30.]
The EP College at Easingwold is undergoing a major build, the first since it's inception that will provide new and modern facilities. You can view this for yourself at www.epcollege.gov.uk and see the work currently underway on the major project. Additionaly these is a facility to take a 'virtual tour' of the college. Just another example of how the threat of global terrorism has changed attitudes to the run down of civil disaster planning since the end of the 'Cold War'.

Emergency Planning gets a new name
[Posted January 30.]
For those interested in the 'Home Office' and 'EMERGENCY PLANNING' this has now considerably changed under recent legislation sweeping away the old systems and providing a new and enhanced service designed to meet new and changing possible threats to the UK. The service is now called: 'THE CIVIL CONTINGENCIES SECRETARIAT' and reports to the Cabinet Office. You can visit their own website at www.ukresilience.info and then click on the Civil Contingencies link under UK Resilience the new group title for the old emergency planning department. There are a host of subjects all with click links on the main page.

Plans are now underway to demolish the 'RWR' at Coryton
[Posted January 7.]
REGIONAL WAR ROOM (CORYTON) CARDIFF.
Plans are now underway to demolish the 'RWR' at Coryton on the former BT site. The plan proposes demolition of the former BT office block and the Regional War Room and replacement with 6 blocks of residential units. Over the past 5 years or so there has been a marked acceleration in the demolition of former Cold War sites. Sadly as towns and cities expand their boundaries these sites, often once well outside the boundaries of the area, now become prime development sites. It is of course not possible to save all these buildings and in the case of Coryton although the RWR was fairly intact, it did suffer from flooding and had not been well maintained. There was also a major crack in the building and this had caused problems over the years. So sadly this is another site to go to demolition and the first to go in 2004.
